Holiday Message from Ian

Ian D. Mead,
President

It is hard to believe that Christmas is here already. Aside from all the hustle and bustle, the fun and the festivities, and the real meaning of Christmas, I often find myself thinking about some of the wonderful books and movies that bring extra meaning or thought to the spirit of Christmas. Today, I find myself thinking about the story A Christmas Carol.

Some trivia... The story was written over a six-week period in October/November of 1843. The novel was the first of five short Christmas books published by Charles Dickens. Obviously, it was the most successful novel in the series.

The thing that I find interesting is that Dickens was so certain that people would like his story that he refused to sell the rights to his publisher. Instead, Dickens paid to publish the story himself. His instincts proved correct! Soon after publication, Dickens sold every single copy.

In his later years, Dickens read an abridged version at public readings for which he charged a fee. Often, Dickens sent the fee to several charitable organizations that he was involved with throughout his lifetime. For Dickens, the book itself was instrumental in helping people and raising awareness of poverty.

Like Dickens, we (IDM) have been blessed by the popularity and success of our software. In turn, we have shared that blessing with the less fortunate by supporting numerous charities and helping people locally and around the world. We are truly thankful for the opportunity and privilege to do this. Of course, we could not do this without your support of our products. We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to you for allowing us to help others around the world.

My desire for this Christmas - and I hope to inspire you to do the same - is to strive to help those that are in need. This Christmas let others know you care and are willing to help. Showing love to others is one of the best ways to celebrate Christmas.

And last but not least, for all who celebrate Christmas, remember the real meaning and keep Christ in Christmas.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year,

God Bless, Ian

What a blessed suprise to read your post this morning Ian. I love this classic story and it goes to the heart of what we are called by Christ to do as we celebrate the real reason for Christman and remember those less fortunate than ourselves.

Ian,
You've made my day. Thank you for taking the time and having the courage to write this message. I have to admit that I usually just scan the messages from IDM and never read any blog posts, but the title caught my eye as I'm about to start reading the novel to my kids at bedtime. You couldn't imagine how much it brightens my countenance to hear someone in this industry use the name of my Savior. May God bless you and your company in tangible and intangible ways and use you beyond your wildest imagination.

Love the story, too. Thanks for having the courage to say what you believe! Good job, Ian!

Don't want to get commercial here but I'd like to put a plug in for the Christmas Carol movie currently showing at the theatres. It's an exceedingly well done version (just like IDM's products!). Check out the IMAX 3D version if you can.

Merry Christmas to all...!

Great Message! though I am a bit surprised to see you call it a Holiday Message instead of a Christmas message. It should not really be necessary for a person like you to be politically correct. Having said that , I do admire persons like you who retain their traditional values even after becoming successful. This cannot be said of many who achieve success. The dominant religion of our country seems to be Atheism coupled with extreme materialism.May the Lord continue to bless your endeavors as He has done in the past.

Good on you, Ian, for your Christmas message. I enjoyed your reminder to take Dickens' story to heart in a practical way. Down here in Australia we are gearing up for another warm Christmas, so the winter elements in "A Christmas Carol" are a bit foreign to us, but the story's moral is no less applicable.
It's also good to read your appeal to keep Christ in Christmas, as that addresses a different kind of need or poverty among a lot of folk nowadays.
Oh yes - and your software ROCKS!

Very refreshing to see someone who's willing to say "Merry Christmas" in this era of political correctness. I already love UltraEdit and wouldn't dream of a day in my worklife without it, but your favorability rating just went up a few more clicks because you said "Merry Christmas" and not "Happy Holidays!"

May God continue to grant you success with IDM Solutions!

I agree. The real meaning of Christmas is the gift of Christ and the sacrifice he made for all humanity. He is our father, king and savior.

BTW, Merry Christmas!!!

Fantastic message, especially the last three lines or so! I am glad to be supporting this software, and I use UE constantly everyday as I do support for Juniper Networks firewalls. May God richly bless you and your company as you keep Christ in Christmas!

You made me cry! It is so refreshing to see a company step out there and talk about what is real, true, and more important than anything. With no worries about being politically correct. Something we all need to do. I wish all companies were run by bold Christians! Merry Christmas & God's blessings to all.

From the comments already made it seams clear that IDM customers (including myself) appreciate the company’s values as much as the product (which in my case is a LOT). Thank you Ian (and company) for best in class products, fair prices, admirable corporate values and not forgetting the faith that is reason for this beautiful time of year........ Many Many Thanks!

Ian and team,
Thanks for yur support over the years!

This is a special time of the year...filled with hope, joy, and love. At the same time, for those in need...physically, emotionally, spiritually...it can be a painful time. My wish is that we seek to meet the needs of those around us is that we might be able to impart the joy and peace that comes from knowing the Christ of Christmas. For in Him alone can our deepest needs be fully met.

Wishing you a blessed Christmas,
George

I'm Jewish, but I was thrilled to see that you had the personal integrity to open about your beliefs. So many people skirt the the holiday with a generic Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings. Good for you for your openness and honestly! I feel that G-d blesses those who honor him. I hope you and the whole IDM family have a great holiday. To borrow your expression "for all who celebrate" I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and to the Jews who may be out there - May you have a light filled Happy Chanukkah!

Isn't it something to think about when someone in business is actually lauded for the courage it took to make a simple statement of faith in a post about Christmas? It is really quite amazing how things have changed to the point that we are now afraid to wish someone a Merry Christmas. I wonder how many people realize the extent to which the Christian traditions and worldview undergird Western culture?

Merry Christmas to the IDM team and community!

Thank you for not only a great product (UltraEdit) that has helped me support my family and some of our favorite charities, but for letting us know that part of our license fee paid to IDM also goes to charities that help alleviate poverty. Have a Merry Christmas and a Great 2010.

Fantastic - someone with a purpose based on absolute values; I'll support that.

Ian, God bless you, your family and your company for your courage. It is dishearting to be in a position where you feel you need courage to even say the word Christ in the buisness world but I pray that your message will give strength to others to follow your lead. Let's hope you started something! Just so you know, I'm fowarding your message to others and the responses back have been overwhelming in their support of you and your message. Thank you and a very Merry Christmas to you and the IDM family.
