Christmas Message From IDM Founder and President Ian D. Mead

Ian D. Mead,
President

Each year it seems amazing how quickly time flies and already Christmas is upon us. What an exciting time!

Of course, it's always a hectic time and it can be difficult to find time to really relax and enjoy the season, but it's something we must do. We all rush around looking for gifts for everyone but sometimes miss out on reflecting upon the reason for giving, Christ's Birthday.

Last year I wrote briefly on A Christmas Carol and some of the history behind it. There is a movie however that my family and I (wonderful wife and 3 wonderful girls) watch every year: It's a Wonderful Life.

From Wikipedia: "The film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man whose imminent suicide on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers). Clarence shows George all the lives he has touched and the contributions he has made to his community."

Each year as I watch it, my heart is truly touched as I reflect upon the difference George Bailey made on the lives of so many. The movie shows the difference in a small town had George Bailey never been born.

What difference are we making day-by-day and year-by-year in the lives of others? Are we concentrating on the right things? Are we making a positive difference in the things we do and the decisions we make?

This Christmas, let's all make a difference. Reach out to someone in need, look for opportunities to help others and use our time and resources well.

Last but not least, for all who celebrate Christmas, remember the real meaning and keep Christ in Christmas.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year...

God Bless,

Ian

I love that you are not afraid to say Merry Christmas and talk about the real reason we have this holiday!! I have friends who are Jewish, other religions, and non-religious, and none of us get offended when the other celebrates something related to their religion. It is part of the greatness of America. I also love It's a Wonderful Life and watch it every year. Thank you and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Thank You for your kind heart, and your willingness to share your belief in Christ Jesus. May the blessings of the season be with you through out the year. I have been a loyal customer sense the mid 90's I needed a replacement for BRIEF. I toyed with UltraEdit and BRIEF back and forth for a year or so until I was forced to abandon BRIEF all together. I always liked it's multiple buffers. With UltraEdit I just add extra pages as buffers. Awesome product.

Greg in reply #21 took the words right out of my mouth. I look forward to seeing your Christmas email each year!
>A christian man of action, happy I am to know that the creator of a product I own, use, and recommend is a man of faith. Merry Christmas to you and your family. PS its almost time to breakout our copy of "Its a Wonderful Life", an annual tradition at home as well.

Keep up the GOOD work!

Really?

Let me first say that I celebrate Christmas with my family. It's a great tradition that brings us together in a special way every year, but I don't want my software to preach to me. You're taking a definite and divisive stand by sending out a mass mail about the real "reason for giving, Christ's Birthday".

I wonder... Is that the reason for giving? Really? What about just being a good person? What about compassion for your fellow man? Is a person good if, and only if, they believe that a virgin gave birth to the son of the creator of the universe?

I've happily given you my money time and time again over the past several years. During those transactions I was under the impression that I was paying for a useful bit of software. I didn't realize metaphysics entered into it.

Along with celebrating Christmas, I also celebrate your right to speak freely about what you find important. But, if your sugary mini-prosthelytizing is going to be a new feature of UltraEdit, I strongly suggest that you advertise this clearly with your promotional materials.

"UltraEdit is the #1 selling, most powerful, value priced text editor available! Made by Christians who will spread His word to you along with our upgrade announcements."

Ian,
Thank you, thank you thank you.
For your Christmas message, like many others who responded I find it very refreshing to see someone openly express their faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
I have been using Ultra Edit on a daily basis, since the very early days. I just had a look back through some receipts. The earliest I could find was 08/20/97. But that was for an upgrade to UltraEdit 32. I know I was using it long before that. So thank you and your IDM team for your great products.
Merry Christmas to you and your family

Ian,
I've been a customer of UltraEdit for around 15 years ( it was just you back then, wasn't it?), and have always touted it as the best programming editor. I now want to thank you for your Christmas message. In today's "politically correct" environment, where we have to have a "Holiday" party instead of Christmas party for fear of offending someone, it is refreshing to hear someone stand by their beliefs, and not be afraid, or ashamed, to express them. Thank you, and may you, your team, and families have a blessed Christmas, and a healthy New Year.

Ian,

Thank you for the Christmas message. I started using UltraEdit back in the 90s, got away from it for a number of years, then came back to it again about a year ago. I choose UltraEdit not because you identify yourself as a Christian, but because I like the editor. If I come across another editor that I like better I may switch (despite the fact that we're both believers). Anyway, thanks again for the message, and a good Christmas and a happy and prosperous year to come, both to you and yours and to everyone else on this list.
