Open your projects with the Windows 7 Jump List

Andy Boyd, IDM

This tip is for those of you using Windows 7 - I'm not currently on Windows 7, but one of our users (Girt R.) sent this to us.

Windows 7 has a new feature called Jump Lists. Jump Lists take you to the documents, pictures, songs, or websites you turn to each day. In the case of UltraEdit/UEStudio, many of you organize your files using projects. So, the question is, can you leverage Jump Lists with your project files? YES!

To show your project files in the Windows 7 Jump List, you need to open your project file using the File -> Open command; not the Project -> Open. After you've opened the project with File -> Open, you can immediately close the file.

Now, right-click on the UltraEdit icon in the task bar, you should see the project file in the Jump List - allowing you to "pin" it.

Note: On my Windows 7 (test) system, I had to double-click on the .prj file in Windows Explorer to open the file in UltraEdit. After I did this, the .prj file was available in the Jump List.

With the project file in the Jump List, you now have instant access to your most-used project files. Simply right-click the UltraEdit icon, and open your project...

PS - I'd like to extend a special thanks to Girt R. for sending this short tip to us. We are always happy to hear your tips, suggestions, and ideas. If you've got a tip that will benefit other users, please send it to us!
