UEX - UltraEdit for Linux Development Update, June 2009

Ian D. Mead,
President

Hello Again,

Thanks to all for your continued support and interest in UEX. We share your excitement!

We are indeed making significant progress. We updated the current beta build just this past Thursday (25 June) with a fresh Ubuntu distribution that included another significant installment of recently completed fixes, features, and added functionality.

Here is just a small sample of what was added to UEX last week:

Added UEX Features/Functionality:

UEX
  • Added Tools
  • Added Project Tools
  • Added line spacing selections: Single, 1.5 Spacing, 2.0 Spacing
  • Added Delete char
  • Added Delete line
  • Added Delete from current position to start of line
  • Added Delete from current position to end of line
  • Added ability to toggle ruler on/off via menu
  • Added ability to toggle line numbers via menu
  • Added macro support for Find/Replace
  • Added macro support for Find in Files/Replace in Files
  • Added scripting support for Find/Replace
  • Added scripting support for Find in Files/Replace in Files

As you can see, our UEX installments are material in nature and are centered around providing our Linux and Mac users the same power and functionality our Windows users enjoy. UEX users will have even greater functionality in some areas such as Find/Replace, Column Editing, and other core operations as the result of our re-engineering efforts for Linux.

Around mid-July we will release a feature blog on UEX that will announce the details of BETA II as well as an updated development roadmap. As planned, we still expect commercial release late this summer and are presently addressing our 32/64 bit packaging.

Also in the upcoming July Blog will be more screenshots of UEX and a detailed feature list.

Special thanks to the UEX beta testers for their support and diligence. We are very excited about the future of UEX!

Best wishes,

-Ian and team

I am also wondering when you guys will enlarge your beta testing group (a.k.a. : Include me!! :) ).

Anyhow: Good work so far, it looks great, and I think a lot of people will be very happy to be able to run UEdit on mac and linux boxes!

Good luck with finishing UEX to a production-ready state! :)

How do you get into the beta for this? I have been wishing for this for years, I have been using Ultra edit since like version 12 in 2005 and have been wanting to use it in linux since then.

I will buy this. I have been using Uedit32 with wine and wishing there was a native editor comparable to this product. Thank You

Two questions:
1) How is the mac version of it coming along? Sounds like all of the focus is on getting it to run under X in ubuntu. Or is the plan that the X version will run under mac x as well? For the record, I would strongly prefer a cocoa/carbon native mac version instead, as the startup time is much better.
2) Is it an open or closed beta? And how do I get into the Beta if it is open?

UltraEdit customer for eight years. Switched over totally to MacBook and eagerly awaiting Mac version. Any chance to get into beta ?
