UEX - UltraEdit for Linux Development Update, August 2009
Hello again. It is with great excitement that we present this month's update on UltraEdit for Linux (UEx).
So much has happened in the past 30 days in terms of product advancement and internal preparations for commercial release.
On the release front, we have rounded out a significant portion of our UEx website content. Click the icons below to see UEx on Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE, and Red Hat.

(Besides accommodating these four main distributions, we've also published a .tar for those using other 32-/64-bit distributions.)
On the development side of the house, we released a Beta II refresh on Monday, August 3. This released retired a material amount of issues, introduced new functionality, and positioned our development teams focus upon Beta III which was released Tuesday, August 11.
New in Beta III (in addition to the maintenance installment):
- Tabs to Spaces
- Spaces to Tabs (All)
- Spaces to Tabs (Leading)
- Trim Trailing Spaces
- To Upper Case
- To Lower Case
- Capitalize
- Invert Case
- Added Bash to default wordfile
- Move Line Up/Down
- Duplicate Line
- Show Tabs/Spaces
- Show Line Endings
- Show Page Breaks
- Templates
- Template List
- File Change Detection
And there is some menu re-mapping in place, including:
- Moved Word Wrap to the View menu
- Renamed Menu "Advanced" to "Tools"
- Moved Configuration to Edit menu and renamed to "Preferences"
Before going to a Release Candidate (RC), we are planning a Beta III refresh later in August to introduce some final features and another maintenance installment.
We want to publicly thank those participating in the UEx beta program. Your feedback and support have been instrumental and there is no way we could bring UltraEdit to the Linux community without your help.
As so many of you have asked, we will be publishing the pricing of UEx soon and YES, existing UltraEdit and UEStudio users will receive customer loyalty discounts.
We are also very proud of our Linux code team for making UEx a reality. In particular, we would like to highlight Brad Hawkins for leading the Linux group and relentlessly pursuing its release.
Also of particular note are the contributions of Mike Mills, IDM's Chief Architect, and Troy Pennington, IDM’s Chief QA.
To our user community, thanks for trusting IDM as your solution provider (No matter what platform you prefer). We are honored to serve you.
-Ian and Team
