UltraCompare: Next Steps

We are very excited to release UltraCompare v6.10 as the latest installment to the v6.xx series.

As previously mentioned, the intent of the v6.xx series is to mature core and commonly used features, optimize performance, and act upon user feedback.

To recap, in v6.00 we focused on Folder mode operations by adding an all-new graphical interface - including tree-style navigation - and fully threading all folder operations for superior performance. These changes and the addition of tabbed sessions, web-page compare, manual re-align, and in-pane editing set the stage for v6.10.

Our focus in v6.10 was on the user interface itself. This effort had two strategic goals: First, to renovate and modernize UltraCompare's user interface and second, to prepare the application for upcoming features that require dock controls.

As you might have guessed, we are planning some MAJOR upgrades throughout the remaining 6.xx series this year. Next on the consideration list is rounding out sessions, adding an output window, workspace manager, support for version control and an FTP browser - just to name a few.

People who use UltraCompare Professional in conjunction with UltraEdit/UEStudio will enjoy an even greater unified editing experience. The integration of the two programs continue to align with user needs and feedback.

Together the two applications constitute a one-of-a-kind solution that is singular in purpose: total control authority over your text editing needs.

Included in each and every development cycle is an exhaustive QA process that includes alpha/beta testing by hundreds of users prior to commercial release. We are as serious about quality as we are in becoming your total file management solution provider.

Outstanding new version. UC keeps evolving and has really become sensational. I use it in conjunction with UltraEdit and I'm amazed at how the two work together. I cannot wait to see what's next. Thaks for the time and thought you put into your products.

UltraCompare NEARLY Perfect Now

I use UltraCompare mostly in folder mode to manage updates between source files in software projects.
One feature I miss when switching over from M$ WinDiff to UltraCompare is the "Hide Marked Files" feature. If this feature was added then UltraCompare would be "perfect" for my application.

The ability to selectively hide a file difference in folder mode comparisons is useful when one wants to sequentially go down a comparison list and hide file difference after the appropriate action has been taken (or that nothing needs to be done) . This is kind of like a placing 'check mark' next to an item in the list as a placeholder to remember where one left off except by hiding items the first item visible in the list is where one left off.

Currently, with UltraCompare I may start a folder compare session and start text merges within files and get interrupted by something else, come back an forgot where I left off and end up having to open some file differences again to see if I did that edit or not. I have to admit that sometimes I have both UltraCompare and Windiff running together just so I can use the 'Hide Marked Files' feature in WinDiff to keep track of what I have already edited using UltraCompare.

My humble request: Please add either a 'hide item' feature or a small 1st column where one can place a 'check mark' next to a file difference in the folder compare mode.

If you have a few moments to put together a feature request email, we think we can include this enhancement in the 6.x series. It would be especially helpful if you would send a few screenshots and more details. We will do our best to get this folded into v6.2 (expected Jun 09).
