Development Update: UltraEdit for Mac now loads on Mac!

We promised you an update again this month and we have some good progress to report.

UltraEdit for Mac, and all its dependencies, now build cleanly on Snow Leopard in Xcode v3.2 - yes, the new OS, a brand-new Xcode package, and, a new SDK all at the same time.

Currently the initial builds are targeted specifically for Snow Leopard, Tiger, and Leopard.

As was stated in last month's post, there were more challenges than we had anticipated - we encountered many issues with Snow Leopard's handling of 64 vs 32 bit architectures. SpiderMonkey, nspr, and boost gave us the most problems.

Next we plan to work through some framework/GUI issues and report that progress back to you just as soon as possible. Hopefully at that time we can share some screen shots with you.

Obviously we have made good progress but we still have some big steps ahead of us to clear before real testing can begin.

We will provide more news when we have it. Thank for your support and unyielding encouragement.

I just switched from Windows to a Mac machine. It turns out the only thing I miss from Windows is UltraEdit. Looking forward to using UltraEdit on my Mac soon!

Thanks for feedback about porting UE to OS X.
I tried UEdit on Windows et I love it.
I use Mac since several years and I would have this great editor on my Macs.

This is great news! I love ultra edit, and I recently switched to a Mac. I cant wait to use UltraEdit on my new Mac.... YEAH! Its like eating cake and getting ice cream with it. by the way, TextWrangler stink.

Hi, thank you for your monthly updates on UltraEdit for the Mac! I can't wait to get my hands on it, because I'm feeling forced to use Win XP on a VM to use UltraEdit (13.20+2 my version). I also use HomeSite 5.2+ for years now (in the same Win XP VM), an unfortunately Adobe does not support it any more. I hope to finde some of it's possibilities in UltraEdit for Mac, when it's finished. Keep up the good work and greetings from Germany, Soeren

When will I be able to purchase a Multi-platform license that covers the Mac version, too? I run Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux systems and am very interested in purchasing a license that will let me use it on all three. I'd love to begin using UltraEdit on Windows now, with the possibility of using it on Mac OS X when it's officially released, but this does not appear to be possible with the current Multi-platform license offered. This is the only thing preventing me from purchasing a Multi-platform license right this minute.

It has been almost 5 years since I moved to OSX and UE is the only thing I miss about windows. Glad to hear it is coming along nicely. Any ETA on a beta/trial version?
