Rectangular select

Postby Cemil » Sat Mar 19, 2005 5:44 pm

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to make rectangular select in UE ?

I know that it is possible to make a Select Range.

But is there not a quicker way, like other editing tools where you hold down ctrl and moving the cursor or something similiar ?

Hope someone has a solution.

Try 'Column Mode' in the Column menu. This should hopefully give you what you need.

Hi Cemil

Column mode is a toggle (On/Off)
There is a icon on the tool bar or use the keystroke Alt+C

Use your mouse, while holding down the left mouse button, to select a rectangular area or hold down the shift key and use the arrow keys.

I love column mode, but you really have to play with to understand it! Check out the different behavior with Insert on and off, interesting!

Have fun

Hi,
On the same subject...
I was wondering whether this editor could be configured to do rectangular selects / copy / cut / pastes just by doing a tripple mouse click (or quadruple as in gvim common setup) to initiate the selection.
(I disliked many things in gVim but the above was very intuitive to use; no modes to think of.)
Thanks in advance,

Man, I'd much rather click a Column Mode toolbar button than do a quadruple mouse click! :)

I admit, it took a little practice. Also, there was certain ongoing "failure rate" but no grave consequences.
I would like if the column mode still allowed us to do selections by clicking (and dragging if desired) on the left sidebar, the one with line numbers. Then I would never leave column mode.
