Avoiding jump to end of next/previous line while selecting

How can I avoid the screen jumping to the end of the next/previous line when I'm selecting text and I accidently move the cursor too far up/down from the line I want to select?

I checked the "allow positioning beyond line end" but it still jumps.

Simply use keyboard for selecting instead of mouse. Press and hold SHIFT key and move the cursor with any cursor movement keys.
