Rulers

Postby CWBillow » Mon Aug 29, 2005 3:23 am

I had to go looking for an on-screen ruler for a project... I found one... But when I was verifying the accuracy of the ruler, I noticed that it seemed that the UltraEdit on-screen ruler is off... Not a Greta deal, but off.

I checked the ruler against a couple other apps, WordPad and MS Word, and the "inch markings" line up fine there... But not in UE.

UE seems to be about 1/16th too large per inch.

All I could do was check my finding against two other WP programs, and as I mentioned, it seems so.

Has anyone else noticed this? If so, any fix?

Hi, Chuck. The on-screen ruler isn't really as much a "ruler" as a column marker. Each marking indicated a column taken up by a character. The spacing changes depending on the font and font size you're using. Remember, UE is a code editor rather than a word processor. Hope that helps.

Mary:

Basically I agree, but if I choose "Courier 12" as my font, and Courier is a fixed space font, shouldn't 2 characters give me an inch?
