improved column block select mode

Postby jonnygarrett » Sat Oct 07, 2006 6:10 am

hi

microsoft vs 2003 (and probably 2005 although I've not used that much) has a great column/block select mode - you first press and hold shift and alt, if you then cursor left or right you'll enter column select mode - cursor up or down will then block select - the block column mode is only active whilst shift+alt are pressed - this turns out to be incredibly useful and a lot more convenient than explicitly enabling column mode

would we be able to have this feature added to ultraedit ?

thanks

UltraEdit has a real column mode which much more power and features than Visual Studio. Just press Alt+C to enable/disable it or use Column - Column Mode or use the toolbar icon to toggle column mode on/off.

See also the other column functions in the Column menu and edit a little while in column mode with or without a selection to learn the UE column power features. Nice is for example to select a few rows but no columns (thin blue line) and enter a text which is than inserted in all rows simultaneously.

By the way: The trick with the ALT key hold while selecting with the mouse to select columns instead of lines is very old in MS programs. Word 97 for example also supports it.
