No, UEX is not a freeware or open source editor, it is shareware. You have to pay for a license after testing period ends.

One feature I miss severely from Ultraedit[or perhaps it was from the full fledged package] was the class browser for the entire project.

Since moving to a Mac, the closest I have come to an editor like Ultraedit[and in fact, close enough that I did indeed purchase the IDE version] is Komodo]

Komodo is cross platform on Linux, Mac, and UE and has most of the features from UE that I know an love.

It comes in 2 flavors, the free Komodo Edit version, http://www.activestate.com/komodo_edit/ which does not have a class tree browser, and the pay IDE version which does have a class tree browser, but only for the files which are OPEN, not for all files in the project.

I'm still jumping to UE as soon as it is released, but for those who need an editor NOW, I highly recommend Komodo Edit to get you by, or the IDE if you really REALLY need those extra functions.
