UltraEdit does not start on Ubuntu 10.10

Postby richardOracleDba » Mon Dec 27, 2010 6:09 pm

I'm running UltraEdit '1.2.0.12-1maverick1 (uex)' on Ubuntu 10.10.

When I start it, it clearly begins, opens the previously opened files, but then immediately closes/crashes. This is especially annoying as I have purchased the license recently.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Thanks,
Richard

I have similar problem: When I open so many files (usually 7-8) that the tabs dont fit on the screen anymore uex crashes.
In the log-report, the last stack-line is "wxAuiTabContainer::ShowAllPossibleTabs(wxWindow*)". I guess there is the problem.
This bug occurs always in ubuntu 10.10, I tested also Linux Mint and some other distros based on ubuntu 10.10.
In 10.04 this bug does not occur, I dont know, if this is ubuntus, gnomes, debians or uexs bug, but it is annoying.

For your problem just open /home/username/.idm/uex/uex.conf:
The last line should say something like: "Open\ Files\ List=2F686F6D652F7468..."
just delete the hole line and save file. Then uex will start normally with no files opened.

if uex still keeps crashing I just found solution for me:

uninstall uex: sudo apt-get purge uex

download ubuntu package from this website (10.04, they dont have a 10.10 anyway).

then just double-click and install. works for me.

I dont know maybe they messed up the version in the repositories.
