Suggestion: Double-click to open new document

Postby BluesBrother » Thu Feb 09, 2012 12:24 pm

This is a really simple suggestion, but I wish that UltraEdit for Mac (and Linux, etc.) would allow you to open a new document by simply double-clicking in an open area of the document tab bar. Many other editors allow this shortcut, and it would be a really convenient addition to existing alternatives, such as clicking New File in the toolbar, the File | New File menu item, or COMMAND-N.

The current behavior for double clicking in the tab area is to create a new file. At least in the Windows version.

Perhaps you're clicking the title bar over the tabs as opposed to the actual open tab area? Or then, perhaps the Mac version does not support this function.

If you don't have this feature, I suggest you send an email to IDM requesting it, since they do not read these forums. The email to send it is at the top of the page, contained in the link "email us directly".

Thanks, rhapdog. This feature may exist in the Mac/Linux versions, but if it does, I can't find a way to enable it. I am definitely double-clicking in the document/tab bar.

Thanks for the tip on emailing IDM directly; I hadn't noticed that in the text at the top of the page. I have sent them an email.

Just a follow-up... I asked IDM Support about it, and they confirm that this feature (double-clicking the tab bar to open a new document) is not yet supported in the Mac and Linux versions.

Hopefully, it will be included in a future version of these products.
