Cursor position affected

When I use UltraEdit on my Windows XP SP2, and I try to select text, the selection/highlighting always begins about 4 characters left of where my mouse cursor is positioned. I suspect this is a 'feature' that can be turned off. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

I checked that on my SP2 system and do not see that issue. I have almost vanilla configuration settings in UE.

That effect is caused by a bad font (non-proportional font). First play with the ClearType and Font Quality settings at Configuration - Editor Display - Advanced. If that settings don't help, you must use a different font - see View menu.
