remove display of menu icons?

Does anyone know how to turn off display of icons in the menus? I'd like to make the menus more compact and accessible w/out excessive mousing.

In versions prior to 11 this could be done with the menu/toolbar customize dialog. The option seems to be gone from v11 and I really do miss it.

I'd also like to disable the menu icons as I was previously possible. I've noticed new config files for the menus, Basic.mfg and Advanced.mfg, but these don't seem to offer a method to accomplish this either. They do seem to make calls to functions? e.g. ID_FILE_NEW, which may control the icon display?

Hope the removal feature is added back (or discovered).
