incremental search shortcut doesn't work

Postby newuser1234 » Thu Jul 13, 2006 12:57 pm

Hi,

I'm just testing ultraedit, and it seems ctrl-shift-I doesn't do anything, although it should be the shortcut to incremental search.

Am I missing anything?

Can't reproduce. It works perfect with v12.10a. After pressing CTRL+SHIFT+I I can enter the search string which is searched.

Note: The incremental search does not have a dialog.

Look at left corner of the status bar after CTRL+SHIFT+I. If you can see "Incremental Search:", the incremental search is active.

If I use the menu, I see the "incremental search" in the status bar, and it works as expected, but ctrl-shift-I doesn't do a thing.

Open the Configuration dialog - section Key Mapping - scroll in the commands list down to SearchIncrementalSearch. Delete the existing key assignment and reassign Ctrl+Shift+I.

And if you have specified a macro file to be auto loaded, check at Macro - Delete Macro/Modify Properties if one of the macros has the hot key Ctrl+Shift+I. Macro hot keys have a higher priority than those for internal commands.

I did check that. This is a fresh install, the only thing I had done by then is open two files and create a project.

I had some macro software running (niftywindows), which doesn't usually bother that key combination. I shut it down, and restarted ultraedit, but that did help either.

Does Ctrl+Shift+I work on your keyboard? Can you test it in the key configuration dialog or by starting a macro record (Macro - Record) and press the key combination in this dialog.

According to list of default keys at Default & Custom Key Mappings for UltraEdit-32 Ctrl+Shift+I should be only assigned to incremental search. But maybe it is by mistake additionally to a second command. Please really remove Ctrl+Shift+I from SearchIncrementalSearch and reassign it to also remove a possible second assignment of this key combination.

Try to assign a different key combination to incremental search and try this one.

With macro hot keys I mean UltraEdit macros and not any other running program. But I guess, you have either a shortcut in the start menu or desktop or a other program running which steals the Ctrl+Shift+I press.

It's Trillian. I use trillian for IM, and even though all the hotkeys are disabled, it still blocks ctrl-shift-I. It also blocks ctrl-shift-A and ctrl-alt-C.

So I had to delete the shortcut from the Preferences/Advanced/Automation menu, and then restart Trillian. And only then would incremental search work.

Thanks for the help Mofi, and Troy from IDM.
