How do I remove UltraEdit from Windows Explorer drop-down menu?

Postby volitics » Fri Nov 10, 2006 3:56 pm

Hello;

When I click on a file in the Windows Explorer the drop-down menu says open with UltraEdit.

In the Configuration-->File Associations panel I have got .txt and .php files associated with UltraEdit. Those are the only two file types that I have associated with UltraEdit.

When I click on an Html page it still says open with UltraEdit. Html pages are not set to be associated with UltraEdit in the Configuration-->File Associations panel.

Can somebody tell me how to remove UltraEdit from the Windows Explorer drop down menu?

Thanks.

If you have specified during installation or since v12.20 in the File Associations config dialog that UltraEdit should be in the context menu for all files (known and unknown - all = *) than it is in the context menu for all files.

If it is only in the context menu of HTML files open Windows Explorer - Tools - Folder Options - File Types - HTML Document (or something similar) and set there the file associations you want for HTML files.

I'm really wondering how my Windows users don't know where to specify/modify the file associations.

It seems to be in the context menu for all files. It's also in the context menu for jpeg files, windows media player files, and bitmaps.

You're saying that I need to uninstall and then re-install?

If you have UltraEdit v12.20 or higher you can remove the shell integration for all files in the config dialog Configuration - File Associations.

If you have a previous version you can run the UltraEdit setup and use the third option to remove the shell integration.

Or maybe more easily you copy following 5 green lines to a new ASCII text file, save it for example with name no_ue_context_menu.reg and double click on this registry file to import it with Regedit into your registry which in this case deletes 2 registry keys. You need administrator privileges for this task.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\UltraEdit-32]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{b5eedee0-c06e-11cf-8c56-444553540000}]

For more details about the shell integration of UltraEdit see right click to "open in UltraEdit".
