In-place Editing via SSH?

Postby leegee » Fri Oct 19, 2007 7:26 am

I can't seem to use SSH to open a file for editing, as I would FTP.

Most of the servers I work on whilst contracting do not have FTP servers, only SSH. I would like to be able to use my purchased copy of UE to open and edit these files without having to setup a Samba server on the remote host.

Any help appreciated.

Enter File - FTP/Telnet - FTP account manager. When you create a new account with "add account" it defaults to FTP in the protocol drop down.

Use SFTP (SSH file transfer protocol) protocol from the protocol dropdown instead. Remember to check settings on the "SSH" tab.

Even though all dialogs says "save to FTP", "Open from FTP", UE knows it is a SFTP account. (SFTP is not a kind of FTP protocol relying on a FTP server - it's a new(er) protocol).

Thanks for the quick reply. I did overlook FTP and concentrated on the SSH menu items, thanks for correcting me.

When I create an SFTP account that mirrors my valid PuTTY account settings, all seems well. I then try to File > Open via FTP, and try to browse, I get a pop-up telling me "invalid URI" and then the account appears to get deleted.

Is it me?!

Thanks

How does your URI look like in the account manager ?

I use "plain" IP numbers for servers. Do use IP or hostnames ?
