What are File Associations? When a file is double clicked in explorer, on the desktop and throughout the system the Operating System (OS) checks to see if any application has been configured to be the default editor/viewer for these files. If an application has been set to be the default editor/viewer the file will be opened with the specific application. This is accomplished by "File Associations". In this section when it talks about file associations to certain file types, it is referring to making UltraEdit the default editor/viewer for these file types.
Checks Made on Startup When UltraEdit is started it checks the file associations for certain file types and if the files are not associated with UltraEdit a dialog box is shown with the option to associate these files with UltraEdit. The user may ignore this by clicking on cancel, or change the associations for any of the listed file types and then click on ok.
An option at the bottom of the dialog allows the user indicate that the dialog box should not be shown again.
File associations may be changed for any file type using the File Associations dialog in Configuration (Advanced Menu).
