Why does UltraFinder sometimes not find anything in older Word documents?


Word 2010 detects some files as file type "Word 6.0 Binary Documents and Templates" and defaults to a secure mode called "Protected View" for this document type.

Policy settings prohibit the user from editing this document type and also prohibit applications such as UltraFinder access to the contents of this file.

By default this file type is protected under "File Block Settings" of Word 2010 because (from help) "the code used to open and save these older formats have vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit. Therefore, they present security risks that should be avoided"

To change File Block Settings for this file type, in the File Tab, go to Help / Options. Then navigate to Trust Center / Trust Center Settings / File Block Settings and untick item:
