Installing a hotfix
What is a hotfix?
For those of you who have not heard the term, a hotfix is simply an updated .exe that includes the latest code modifications based on customer feedback. Modifications range from bug fixes to simple things such as dialog changes or default setting changes. A hotfix doesn't require a full installation; it is a type of patch that can be quickly applied to your installation. You simply download the hotfix and place the updated files in the directory in which you installed the product.
Why Do Users Like Hotfixes?
A hotfix provides users real-time access to resolved issues prior to an official release. This is especially beneficial to those who have reported an issue as they likely have an operational need for the fix to accommodate a specific task. For others, accessing a hotfix may not offer any benefit. You can review the items contained in a hotfix prior to downloading it to determine if you would benefit from one or more items contained in the hotfix. Although the fixes are not official they are generally embraced by most users as highly beneficial. You can click any of the links below to view the most current development path for your product.
Installing a hotfix
You will need to completely close the application you are going to apply the hotfix to. Make sure all instances are closed.
You can normally access the the hotfix on our website by checking for updates from within the application.
You will then need to extract the contents of the hotfix .zip file into the directory where your application is installed.
To verify that you have successfully installed the hotfix, go to Help> About and check your application's version number. You should then see the version number followed by a +X (where X is the hotfix number).
