“Great IDE!”

stars 29/11/2024

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
It is a well rounded IDE for a good price. I can do all my programing for multimple languages in it and replaced my
aging outdated and discontinued IDEs of old allwoing me to continue to continue programing like I want.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
While it is easy to jump in and start programing it does have a bit of a learning curve to fully learn it and get
the most out of it.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ultra Edit is a great programming environment for me.

“I’m not necessarily a business user, just a common guy who’s spent $1000 on UltraEdit”

stars 27/04/2023

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
I like that UltraEdit works on multiple platforms and allows up to 3 installs per license. This allows me to have a
copy on each of my machines so I don’t have to juggle where my licenses are activated / installed as I change
machines I’m working on.

It’s also nice that it includes a hex editor, allowing me to find hidden or incompatible characters quickly. The
large file size manipulation is also a significant bonus since many files I look at are > 50 MB. UE and UE Studio
make viewing and modifying these files a breeze. Another feature I used quite a bit some years back is the seamless
conversion to multiple file types (I used ASCII <==> IBM EBCDIC daily for quite a while.

Having all of these features, plus integrated FTP, wordfile support, column edit and other smaller QOL things
which I don’t know how to quantify meaningfully but are sorely missed whenever I use other editors.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
Since UltraEdit is such an all-encompassing text editing software, it can certainly be overkill for simple
every-day tasks. I do believe that with everything this software does, it is a trade-off I am willing to make for
all of the benefits it offers.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing my files.

Reading very large logs.

Parsing and fetching data out of large console dumps.

Coding / Scripting

Macros to modify multiple files

Hex editing to find erroneous data

File conversions for different encoding / file structures

“The ONLY editor for large data sets”

stars27/04/2023

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
Without a doubt, it’s ability to handle very large data sets. Working with data that sometimes can be several tens
of thousands of lines, it’s great to have an editor that can open and paginate through so much at once. In addition,
it’s columnar mode is a godsend for when you need to adjust data or insert something into every line. Finally, I’d
be remiss if I didn’t talk about it’s search feature – complete with support for regex as well as being able to
generate new files off of the found data!
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
With all it’s features, it can be hard at times to find what you are looking for. As someone who has been using it
for well over 15 years now, the menus can get overwhelming at times.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allowing you to virtually view any data you want – any file type – any format. It’s a must-have when your day to day
job involves you having to go through files that contain a lot of lines of data. It’s so much better than using
something like Excel. It’s ability to recognize the type of data is helpful as well as it can then syntax highlight
possible issues.

The greatest benefit I get is that it’s my go-to editor and viewer of choice. I don’t think about what tool I need
to open a file of a certain type, I just know to right-click and use Ultraedit.

“UltraEdit is a powerful text editor and coding software”

stars08/06/2023

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
UltraEdit is the most powerful tool for editing text and writing code. There are multiple languages supported for
writing code. We can reformat the JSON or any other file types if there are not formatted well with just a mouse
click.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
The cost of the license is a bit higher. There is no free version of this software available. It is a bit complex
for new users as so many options are available on the menu bar.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?
I’m using UltraEdit for writing SQL scripts and some essential Java and Python codes. Also, it is helpful to
reformat the JSON/XML files we receive in our Data Warehouse.

“Easily edit large files with UltraEdit”

stars09/05/2023

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
I absolutely love UltraEdit’s automated features, which allow me to quickly and efficiently perform tasks that would
otherwise require multiple keystrokes. In addition, the larger file sizes can be edited much faster in UE compared
to other editors – a must-have feature for quickly navigating changes in large EDI files! The ability to toggle hex
and column modes makes it much easier to make changes to text documents of any size.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
I have nothing negative to say about UltraEdit. It is an incredibly reliable and versatile program that continues to
exceed my expectations with each update. The features it provides, such as syntax highlighting and macro recording,
are extremely useful and make programming easier than ever before. I am extremely grateful for the impact this
software has had on my development processes – thank you UltraEdit.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?
By using UltraEdit, I’m able to quickly and easily convert my proprietary files back to text format, which can then
be indexed and searched more quickly. This saves me time in finding the right data that might otherwise be difficult
to locate without this invaluable tool.

“I can’t say enough good things about UltraEdit and the suite of UltraFind and UltraCompare”

stars 03/05/2023

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
Ability to handle very large files (gigabyte size), column mode to decode .csv, Python mode to indent Python code,
XML mode to highlight sections
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
The only complaint I have with the suite is the speed of UltraFind. I search very large directories (600GB) for
content. Ultrafind is VERY SLOW (20-30 minutes) when searching content. Even though I am running Ultrafind on a 32
core machine with solid state disks , Ultrafind only uses 1 core and very little of my disk bandwidth. I expect that
if Ultrafind were multithreaded that I could reduce that search time by at least10x. Ultrafind needs to be
multithreaded to take advantage of the latest in multicore CPU’s and very high speed (7000MB/sec) solid state disks
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?
UltraEdit – the ability to see the results of very large data mining data sets

UltraCompare – compare various Python source code forks

UltraFind – Identify previous work streams and presentations

“Senior Banner Software developer”

stars 02/05/2023

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
I love connecting to the database and seeing what I would do in an SSH connection just using ultra edit. With that,
I can open files, edit them, and save them back to the actual server with no FTP needed. This is handy when trying
to update a file on the server and having the code highlights and helpful tools.

I also like that if I am working on the web or an HTML, I can use the tools in ultra edit to see and edit my code
right in the ultra edit.

Lastly, the Ultra COMPARE is the biggest reason I want and continue to get Ultra Edit if I am making changes or
putting in an upgrade, I can compare the upgraded file to the customized ones and easily create and integrate my
changes. This saves so much time for me.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
Not to many dislikes with all the different tools I can’t really complain and the cost is also reasonable I hope it
stays that way.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?
I love the code highlighting for different code languages this is helpful when for example I strong points are in
Sql and PL/SQL and oracle database when I have to edit something like Java HTML or other code its helpful to find my
mistakes and figure out how to make changes to code I am not as strong in.

“Makes XML files easy to read and edit”

stars 27/04/2023

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
When my team started working with XML files for our product, and the files became sufficiently large, we asked our IT team for a product where we, the product owners could create/view and edit our files that was easy to learn. UltraEdit was just the thing we needed.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
For non-tech users, it can be a little difficult to learn how to compare files and find certain things in very large files for us. It just took time playing around with it and we got there.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?
In our project, when we were creating small test files for a proof of concept we could make our XML files “pretty” using Notepad and free “beautify” tools online. As the files became much larger with real data, we needed something that could open/edit and save these large files quickly – something that non-developer product owners could readily use. UltraEdit was recommended by our technical team.

“UltraEdit has been my teams go to from it’s early days.”

reviews
1/11/2019

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
I wear many hats from sys admin, programmer, dba, data prep and analysis. UltraEdit has been my teams go to from
it’s early days, UltraEdt32! Key features that sold me were the syntax highlighting, regular expression search and
replace, column editing, hex editing, file compare and support/speed for very large files, even networked files. It
also understands Linux and DOS line endings. This product rocks!

I do mostly Perl, Javascript, and CSV editing with syntax. The column editing and sums are really a DBA or data
scientist dream. I always use a variety of tools to trim down data I’m working on, but UltraEdit has come to the
rescue many times loading, searching and fixing huge tangles of data.

I feel the UltraEdit team has always struck a balance of staying in their lane yet using integration where needed.
Not trying to be all things to all users. Very configurable and tons of features but all to the point.

Lastly, they are clearly engaged in active and continuous development. Usually, the only support I’ve needed was
migration of the app to the next windows release a couple of times. I have discussed features on a few occasions.
They are always fast, professional and down to earth. A great combination.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
It doesn’t read my mind to fix typoes. Seriously though, most features I have thought of have been implemented
before I can request them.

Ok, one beef, does anyone really use the highlighted current line which is default?? Easy to change every few years
when I get a new PC, but uglie, sticking with the typoes theme.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:
Give it a whirl. Grab a large log file and do some searches. Highlight a huge column of text and replace it. Then
compare the results to the original.

Browse through the configuration to see the many features not only available, but configurable!
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?
My job is to move and manipulate data. Programming Perl is common, as is studying and fixing data files, sometimes
very large, for layout problems or anomalies including weird hex bits. UltraEdit is indispensable! Benefits realized
weekly, if not daily from it’s stability, usability and speed.

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
Simple, complicated, and everywhere in between.

The range of functions is amazing, and you can tailor the configuration to your needs.

I o not program, but find it very useful as an admin / auditor / security professional, especially when I have to review log files.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
Sometimes the amount of options can be overwhelming. However, this is more of a learning curve than something to dislike.

Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:
Be patient, this is a very powerful editor and takes a bit to learn, but well worth it.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly having different options, views, and the ability to do column edits are my main usages.

04/18/2017

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
Many times, working with pure data. Changes have to be made to 10’s or thousands of lines at once. With Ultra Edit I
can do that. With other systems that I’ve looked at, don’t have the features that EU has and something’s would take

“Rock solid, fast, capable and language-aware”

reviews
03/25/2019

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
Overall, UltraEdit provides the level of editing power that professional programmers, web developers, and other
technical users need, but they make that power very accessible.

* It’s as good for editing source code as it is for editing text data files (including CSV).

* You can specify almost any common programming language; UltraEdit understands that language’s syntax for code
formatting and identifying functions, procedures, etc. You can also extend this feature as needed.

* It includes tools for formatting and editing CSS, JSON and HTML.

* UltraEdit performs very well when you’re working with huge data files, it’s very speedy!

* This editor NEVER crashes, even when doing global search/replace on big files.

Notes:

* I’ve only used the Windows version of UltraEdit, though they have Mac and Linus versions.

* I’ve used UltraEdit for over 20 years and regularly recommend it to team-mates.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
While they’ve made accessing settings easier over the years, I wish they’d make it even easier to find and change
settings. There are some customizations I only wish I could make, so it works like I want (e.g., Home key moves to
column 1, not the first non-blank column).

“Exceptional flexibility, deep scope of features”

reviews 12/15/2023

What do you like best about UltraEdit?
I like that it is exceptionally feature-rich yet can present a working environment that is clean and lean.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?
The macro function can lag or hang when processing hundreds or thousands of items. Macros are very powerful and
valuable, but this one area has been an issue for many years for me.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:
Over time, UltraEdit can be expensive if you keep up with the updates. They now use a subscription model, so if you
see yourself using UltraEdit long-term, consider a lifetime license. It’s pricey upfront, but I’ve been using
UltraEdit for almost two decades, and the lifetime license was well worth it. Also, if you have issues, don’t
hesitate to contact UltraEdit Support. They are very helpful!

UltraEdit has so many features, but you can still keep your working environment is clean and lean. It launches
quickly, and it doesn’t get in the way.

One of the best features is its Word Files. These are files that contain keywords and syntax of many programming
languages. They have an extensive library, and they are fully customizable, so you can create your own if you can’t
find the one you need.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use UltraEdit to view and edit EDI files as part of my job. The HEX editor, Macros, and custom Word Files lets me
tailor the environment to exactly what I need, making me much more productiive.
